This has been the first rise in both these values since the introduction of the price on carbon.
And all the evidence points to the removal of the price on carbon being the trigger. There are also predictions that if Dumb Dumb follows the recommendations of Dick 'I also think climate change is absolute crap' Warburton... then almost all investment in renewable energy will grind to a halt. Australia is open for business... just not smart, clean, renewable business.
This in turn would take us from our current position of easily meeting our 5% reduction target, to having absolutely no chance of meeting that target. And no amount of 'Absolute Confidence' from Greg Hunt can change the fact.

But perhaps with the Napthine government already positioned for decimation, Dumb Dumb doesn't really care.
It is clear from their behaviour that the Abbott government supports vested interests in the Coal and the coal-fired electricity industry. From big donor Nathan Tinkler to Clive Palmer (the government's new bestie) - the Coalition is clearly looking after its mates in mining.
It is also clear that they are completely out of touch with community sentiment. The Save Solar marginal seats campaign recently stopped in the seat of Eden Monaro. The sitting member is on a wafer thin margin, but was too arrogant to attend a meeting of concerned residents, dismissing them as Greenies. The event attracted 500 people, with many people being turned away at the door as the event reached capacity.
The solar council will continue its marginal seat campaign... let's see how many conservatives they make nervous, or at least what reason they come up with next for the widespread and growing grassroots movement that is against them.
If anyone can come up with a ridiculous slogan to explain it away, or a completely illogical argument for why the government is right and the governed are wrong... its Tony Dumb Dumb.
One of the smokescreens that Abbott is cynically using is the 'War on terror'. It currently seems that all this has done is halt Abbott's slide. The rule of using fear and terror politically is that you need to keep upping the ante to keep people fearful, and with many people already seeing through this latest ploy... it will have a very short shelf life. It certainly won't get Dumb Dumb through the next election.
First Dog on the Moon has summed up the mood of the country based on Dumb Dumb's looney leadership. The comforting is that the shambles that is our government is continuing to trip over itself, so despite its sinister agenda, they will achieve nothing useful or lasting. And by the time we are in the next term of government Abbott and his mendacious cronies will just be an unhappy memory.
