Most recently, after shooting off his mouth before engaging his brain, he has subsequently dug in his heels and refused to withdraw his previous comments, let alone apologise for threatening the independence of the judiciary.
He brought the normally reluctant Tony Fitzgerald out into public to comment on his fears for the state and a possible return to Bjelke-Petersen like conditions.
In what, as far as I can recall, is an unprecedented step we have senior judges expressing concerns about the independence of the judiciary, and feeling it necessary to halt legal proceedings, perhaps indefinitely.
There is widespread criticism among the legal fraternity, which is not isolated to 'out of touch judges' as Newman calls them.
Newman also has prisoner advocates expressing fear that his recklessness will bring the whole judicial system to a grinding halt.
This in turn is working counter to the aims the Newman claims to have had for this legislation as it has avoided matters involving a number of bikies from being heard.
This is a very dangerous government. They are willing to target any minority they feel will give them some political mileage. They draft legislation they don't understand and which has many unintended consequences. They are unapologetic about the fact that it in turn could hurt many innocent Queenslanders. Their public comments are ill-considered and when they rock the legal foundations of what is the civil society we all value, they refuse to back down as they are so utterly convinced that they are right in everything they do.
What a complete and utter mess! And the depressing thing is that we have at least another 18 months of this clueless government with no sign that sanity will prevail in their party room or when they recklessly venture out into the public domain.
Grab the shotgun Grandma!
