The attack on the price on carbon was built on lies and fear from day one by the most dishonest and deceptive campaigns in some time. And through his support for the removal of a price on Carbon Palmer has characterised the PUPs as at best naive, and at worst colluders in a plan to deceive the Australian people, to suppress innovation, to damage our environment, to steal our future and to debase our international reputation in this area (alongside a long list of other areas where our reputation has been trashed). Even Palmer himself has admitted he has a vested interest in the removal of a price on Carbon by abstaining from voting on the bill in the lower house.
But Palmer went a step further - after first going the populist route by suggesting he was for an emissions trading scheme (and duping Al Gore in the process), Palmer has sabotaged even that by placing conditions on it to ensure it is never enacted. The condition... that India (a third world country) takes significant action on climate change before we will do anything. Ridiculous and amoral.

All things considered - a disaster engineered by Tony Dumb Dumb.
What is also at risk (but less well publicised) is the SRES (small scale renewable energy scheme). ACIL Allen have been engaged by the government to develop modelling for the Review of the Renewable Energy Target. Based on their modelling assumptions, decisions will be made about changes to the policy setting. Industry insiders believe the impact of any changes to current policy settings will have a profound negative effect on the uptake of rooftop solar. You can find commentary on that here.
While there will likely be a short term victory for the forces of self interest and stupidity... ably led by our buffoon-in-chief... Tony Dumb Dumb, the chances of a medium to long term move in relation to putting a price on Carbon are good. As Tristan Edis clearly puts it... the idea of a price on Carbon won't die. The regressive actions of Abbott and Palmer will soon be superseded by people with real vision.
Let's hope we don't have too long to wait.
