It is with great pride the local members of the Australian Labor Party in Townsville, have put forward three exceptional candidates for the upcoming state election. None of the three candidates are professional politicians, former political staffers, union officials or lawyers.
We are not saying that people in these categories are in anyway unsuitable for political office, however the Townsville members of the Labor Party understand the public have had enough of the same old professional politicians and want a new generation of fresh COMMUNITY candidates.
This year the Labor Party has preselected for the Seat of Townsville Scott Stewart. Scott has served the people of Townsville exceptionally as a High School Principal, currently Pimlico State High School. Scott is a strong leader with the proven ability to get things done for our community.
In Mundingburra we have selected a national champion for quality Early Childhood Education Coralee O’Rourke. As the Director of a community based Early Learning Centre in Aitkenvale she is integrated in her community and understands the struggles families are going through at the moment with job and service cuts across North Queensland.
Aaron Harper, our candidate for Thuringowa, is an Intensive Care Flight Paramedic who, again, has served the Townsville/Thuringowa community for decades in leadership roles as acting Officer in Charge at different Stations including the Northern Beaches and Kirwan Ambulance Stations Aaron has been a community advocate in relation to local jobs.
The voters of Townsville will have a clear choice at this election between the current local members who have just been apologists for Newman Government broken promises and cuts or a new generation of community advocates and leaders. In Scott, Coralee and Aaron, Townsville people can vote for local community champions who have the leadership experience to represent Townsville voters.
