I'm not aware of any precedent - a new Federal government, who has become so quickly unpopular, and who has inspired massive public protests on a multitude of issues after a little more than 6 months in power. It clearly demonstrates the illegitimacy of this government, and the complete contrast it provides to our previous minority government who were infinitely better and more productive.
But in spite of the troubling times ahead, Australia's worst ever PM has done us a great favour by uniting the nation politically... against him, his deceit, and the tawdry way in which he plays political games and places everyday people last. Beyond the next Federal election, Australia;s future looks bright.
It will be interesting to see how this is reported in the Murdoch press. I'm sure the chattering classes within the mainstream media commentariate will dismiss it... just as in a few years time, the electors of this country will dismiss most of the LNP governments currently in power.
There was one heckler, who shouted the tired old Tory line 'Get a Job'. It seemed to escape his notice that it was a Sunday, penalty rates are yet to be stripped away, all the marchers around me seemed to have jobs... and families... and the composure and the decency to not try and cut down a group of people making a respectful political protest. But the vocal minority who support the Abbott government now have to shout very loudly to be heard... as their time in the political wilderness fast approaches.
Congratulations Townsville! I'm sure all the other events around the country were run by maintaining the same high standards we had here.
Maintain the Rage!
