But it all went so horribly wrong.
Not because they held it in Foxtel studios, not because Abbott spent almost the entire time nodding and trying to say as little as possible (while saying Megabit as often as possible), and not because Malcolm's arrogance shone through when he was challenged on basic points like 'how long will the copper last'.

- this was an effort to reduce government cost by cost-shifting to individuals.
- this was about handing more power and control to Telstra and Murdoch
- although the ABC's right leaning Drum segment liked to claim that Turnbull had won the day through politicking rather than through good policy (interesting argument)... all the posters were quite critical of Turnbull and his lamentable policy.
Where this was most evident was on Twitter (#fraudband) where the negative comments, and the links to articles savagely rebutting Turnbull just keep flowing think and fast.

Turnbull was criticised for his missing data (that he kept repeatedly referring to in his launch speech
He was criticised for his short sightedness
He was criticised for his lack of foresight and inability to see the clear trend of increasing data usage and need.

At every turn the government would be paying Telstra more money.

John Birmingham wryly described the Coalition's plan for the NBN as one which will be giving away free floppy discs and free monochrome monitors. It's an amusing critique.
There is talk of the Coalition wanting to create 2 NBNs... one that preferences the City over the Bush, the Rich over the Poor. But that's what the Tory's do... increase the gap between the haves and the have nots.
There is criticism about the inequity this policy creates

And if people don't like Malcolm's plan and want to by-pass the big box at the end of the block... they'll have to pay for it themselves. The estimates vary from $6000 to just shy of $10,000. Malcolm says if you want to live in the 21st C... you'll just have to pay for it (assuming you even have that kind of money)
Well done Malcolm.
Who's the next lamb to the slaughter? Please let it be Joe Hockey and Andrew Robb... I'm sure they still haven't found that missing $10 Billion.
