His article laments the debasement of modern politics, and I'm inclined to side with him.
Direct Action... the budget numbers don't add up according to The Conversation, and according to Climate Spectator Hockey is finding savings in abolishing the Clean Energy Finance Corporation where they don't exist. And Independent analysis suggests that IF the Coalition implements Direct Action as it has said it will, the budget is likely to blow out by as much as $35B. Most think they won't implement the policy as it was only ever formulated as an election smokescreen.
If you've got your doubts about the constant polling (and Newspoll in particular), you'll be pleased to know that there are many others who share your skepticism, including Bob Ellis.
And there is the business council's criticism of Abbott who thinks that the best response to a 'budget emergency' is to return the budget to surplus in a time frame similar to the one Labor mapped out.
I'm a little tired of all the relentless bleating about the 'golden times' we had under Howard and the idea that an Abbott govt will return us to the promised land... We all lived through those times, and I certainly don't recall them being the halcyon days a delusional Abbott seems to remember. For an assessment of the qualities of Howard era policy... the Paul Keating video (below) makes for excellent viewing.
And finally... Eric Abetz has let the cat out of the IR bag, admitting that the Coalition has big plans post election, with the party chastising Abetz for opening his mouth too soon.
I think the choice is obvious, but election day is about all our individual choices.
