We all know that Tony Dumb Dumb thinks Climate Change is 'absolute crap' and set about establishing 'advisory panels' headed by people who were even more poorly informed than he is. They key criteria on which they were selceted though, was a shared belief the climate change is crap'.
Enter Dick Warburton (Climate Skeptic) to review the RET. And business advisor Maurice Newman to go beyond business advice and provide some tin foil hat theory about the Climate Cooling in the pages of the Australian.

A report commissioned by green groups has found that abolishing the Renewable Energy Target (RET) will increase profits to electricity companies by more than $10 billion.
The modelling also says household electricity prices would rise if the RET is scrapped or reduced.
A recent report has also found that reducing the RET, as reports suggest Tony Dumb Dumb is keen to do... would bring $8 billion extra profit to coal and $2 billion to gas generators. The modelling found that if the RET were reduced electricity prices would not be reduced and could rise by 15% wholesale and 2.5 % retail on average in the period to 2030. Basically, abolition of the RET would add about $80 a year. But where the big cost to taxpayers would come from is the cost of Carbon pollution, which would rise by $14B (based on conservative estimates).

The imaginary $550 dollar savings we are supposed to receive in the first year (only) by removing a price on Carbon will be gone by the time the Abbott government is kicked out of office.
Reports are suggesting Abbott wants to scrap the RET entirely... a decision which will make the modelled price rises even higher and profits for polluters higher also. Others are suggesting this is a strategy to make lowering the target easier.
Tony Dumb Dumb does it again.
But perhaps the main point of this all is to erode business confidence in the renewables sector. While the Mad Monk claims the country is open for business (usually at inappropriate times like at the D-Day memorial).. it seems we are only open for businesses in the fossil fuel industry.
The latest round of incompetence associated with the RET review has led to plans for a major solar plant being shelved.
There are also concerns that changes to the RET could bankrupt wind farms... when the scaremongering around 'Windfarm Illness' doesn't work, the Coalition needs to step up the attack. Sad when we have seen the remarkable effect wind power has had on cleaning up the supply of power in Sth Australia.
The aim seems to be that the party of Workchoices now seeks to give us no choices in relation to renewable energy... locking us into fossil fuels, locking in profits for those companies, and locking in funding for the IPA from companies such as ExxonMobil, WMC Resources, BHP Billiton, and Caltex.
And for the final word on Tony Dumb Dumb... First Dog on the Moon nails it.
