Cory is notorious for making a great many offensive and unsupportable comments about people and groups he sees as the enemy of his own special brand of Christian Ultra-Conservatism. It's unnecessary to repeat them, and to be honest they are the kind of ideas that don't deserve oxygen.
In response to what was reportedly a long and boring diatribe, Ewen Jones stood up and offered a contrary opinion.... That there are a great many good single mothers, and that the nuclear family is not the only answer to the needs of children. Ewen rightly points out that the critical element is love and support.
I would agree with Ewen fully, and congratulate him for standing up in a party room which likely has more sympathy for Cory's perspective, than Ewen's. That would've taken courage.
At the same time, it is important to note that my praise is somewhat tempered by the fact that being a more rational person than Cory Bernardi isn't saying much.
